SO HOW DO WE GET A RETURN
Remember predicting exactly the six numbers that will come up next week is impossible. Avoiding 'bad' entries is easier and significantly increases your chance of winning a big prize. Don't expect to win the jackpot with your first set of predictions . However, you should find that over a period of time you could win more of the smaller prizes than by simply picking random numbers, maybe, one day, you'll get the big one. I don't say do not make a lucky dip entry it has the same 14 million to 1 chance of winning, what I am saying is that you have no influence over the numbers printed on that entry. They may be six odd/even numbers, all above or below 25 not have any pairs, have they been out before, if they have any of these attributes you have probably just thrown your chance of winning any money away.
If you make more than one entry do not waste it. Use your additional entries to increase the odds in your favour, by combining some of the numbers in your other entries. Never buy multiple Lucky dips, a lady in front of me the other day asked for 10 lucky dips, yes, you can win with a lucky dip, but what she bought was ten individual entries, each with one 14 million to 1 chance of winning, and no control over her selections, you have to increase your odds of winning by combining your selections.
Cover More Numbers
The chances of winning the lottery is 13,983,816. ie. there are 13,983,816 combinations of any 6 numbers from 49. So how can we improve on this? The answer is quite simple , you have to enter more boards, and the odds of winning increase by a factor equal to the number of boards you enter. If you enter three boards then you treble your chances of winning the jackpot, provided you do not double up on your entries. However these are still not great odds. We have all entered several boards with different numbers on each board only to find that we get one number on one board, two on another and so on without a win in sight. In Fact the odds are 2 to 1 You getting no balls at all, when playing just one card, with six chances at it. Faced with these sorts of results we begin to wonder should we play or how to combine our numbers to improve the chance that three or more balls come together on one board.
The solution is to use permutations of your selected numbers.
To fully cover a selection of 7 Numbers requires 7 entries, 8 numbers 28 entries,
9= 84 entries 10=210 11=462 12 numbers 924 entries and so on until you cover
all 49 numbers to guarantee a jackpot win 13,983,816 entries.
You can see that to fully cover any more than seven numbers rapidly becomes
prohibitively expensive for the individual. There is a way to reduce the number
of boards needed to cover a given set of numbers, but we have to understand
the characteristics of full cover permutations to appreciate the principles
used to achieve the reduction of boards used to make our entries.
To cover 9 nine numbers in a full cover perm any six from nine would require
84 boards, i.e. there are 84 combinations of any six numbers from a set of nine.
If you were to check the numbers you would find that up to five numbers were
repeated on a number of boards and up to three numbers repeated 20 or more times.
This means that if three of your nine selections were to appear in the draw
you would have multiple wins typically 20 winning boards £200. If four
of your selection matched you could have 10 multiple match lines of four numbers
plus up to 30 three match lines.
So we are looking at getting three balls correct £200 and for getting
four balls right, we could expect a pay out of £700 Plus. The only thing
wrong with that is that it costs £84.00 to enter, we have 84 boards to
write out, and the chances of getting three numbers from our nine selections
are still slim. If we examine the full perm you can see that all the boards
overlap another set of boards by five numbers and it is this overlap that controls
how many boards are required to give full cover of a set of numbers. By accepting
a lower overlap you can cover nine numbers with just 3 boards and save £81.
To do this we choose the nine numbers and overlap just three numbers. Example.
if we substitute our selection by the letters ABCDEFGHI.
We would use ABCDEF,
ABCGHI,& DEFGHI.
You can test the efficiency of this arrangement but if three of your numbers
come up then this combination is capable of yielding a match 57 out of 84 times.
As I previously stated mathematically the odds are significantly stacked against us in the lottery, there are odds of 2 to 1 against getting none of the 6 drawn balls. That's the same odds as guessing the toss of a coin, and we have 6 goes at getting one. If someone said I will give you 6 guesses of the outcome, at tossing a coin, what's the chances of you not getting one right I can easily explain this using the formula, lets say the six balls have been drawn that leaves 43 in the pot. We therefore have any 6 from 43 ways of not getting any balls, that's 6,096,454 to 1, divide these by the jackpot odds of getting six just under 14 million and we have a 2 to 1 chance of not getting any at all. The odds of getting just three numbers and getting a return is 57:1 four numbers the odds increase about twenty fold to 1033:1 so we have to concentrate on getting a return rather than hitting the jackpot, yet still having a chance of getting 6 right, and not just throwing our money down the drain. If we were doing the pools we would take current form and so on into consideration, theoretically therefore we would have an advantage doing the pools. Realistically form does not play a major part in the results of football matches, other wise we would all be experts and getting 8 draws every week, how many times have you succeeded in getting five or six draws let alone eight. In my view the form on the lottery is more reliable and by analysing previous draws we can draw various conclusions, and use them in our quest to obtain a favourable result.
The info:
Use hot numbers in your selection, it is amazing how many of the seven numbers
(6 + bonus) drawn reappear in consecutive draws, some times three or four times
though this is not very common. Similarly it is amazing how many numbers appear
after resting for one draw, e.g. Saturday and the following Saturday or Wednesday
and the following Wednesday, a 74% hit rate across all draws.
About 64% include a number preceding one from the previous draw likewise
77% draws includes a number following one from the previous draw.60%
of draws include a number immediately below one of those drawn, e.g. 2 and 7
18,23 or 34 39.(based on the old 5 column card) Use consecutive numbers 64
% of draws have some numbers in consecutive order, restrict this to pairs
as only 8% of draws contain three consecutive numbers. Use diagonals
when making selections 50% of draws have two numbers occasionally
three on the diagonal.(again based on the old 5 col card DO NOT USE THE NEW
CARD, THIS DOES NOT WORK) Make patterns when making your selections, using some
numbers from the previous couple of draws. Make some diagonals to the left or
to the right, make some selections immediately below others, or to the left
or right (consecutive pairs of numbers). Do not use all odd or all even
numbers, even 5and 1 odd/even is very rare. The most common selection is 3 odd
and 3 even closely followed by 4 odd 2 even and 2 even 4 odd. Try to avoid making
symmetrical patterns across the board, i.e. down from left to right or right
left and back to right again. These sorts of patterns are very rare I'm not
saying they cannot happen but concentrate on making the numbers play for
you, on a regular basis, play the percentages and you should get better
results. Remember to always, check your entry against the previous draws,
lightening rarely strikes twice in the same place, try to avoid using lines
with four or more numbers identical to a previous draw.
Once a number goes cold try to leave it out of your selections until
it reappears, once it reappears it becomes a hot number and could be worth following
as it should be trying to catch up. It should be worth noting that your selection
could contain some cold numbers,(after all any thing is possible, but I always
try to leave them out) when I have, I would favour those that have a below average
strike rate. Always keep your statistics up to date, and watch for emerging
patterns.
To keep this information current and up to date I have had to continue using
statistics based on the old 5 column card which were in use for about 8 years.
If you can not get hold of one (Now a copy on Analysis
Page )AI would strongly suggest that you draw one out and keep it to
help with your selections. If you cannot remember these card were numbered 1
to 5, 6 to 10, 11, to 15, and so on. The draws have produced another pattern,
they tend to fall in the columns, 2 in one column 2 in another then 1 in another,
1 in another. The most common is 2:2:1:1: which means one of the five columns
will be void of any numbers.
If we can determine which column would be void in any particular draw, we could
reduce the numbers we select from by 10, and thus reduce the odds to any 6 from
39 which is 3,262,623to 1 a significant drop from 14 million to one. Although
these are still very large odds, 83% of draws have a column void of any
numbers so this is well worth bearing in mind. 23% almost a ¼ have two
columns void e.g. 3:2:1 or 2:2:2: or a rare 4:1:1 situation. If you reduce your
selection by 19 numbers, then you would be making a selection from just 30 numbers.
This brings the odds down to choosing any 6 from 30. If you can be confident
enough that the six drawn balls will appear in your 30 selections, you can say
you have reduced your chances of winning the jackpot down to 593,776 to 1. If
your selection is from 29 numbers remaining the odds are further reduced to
475,020 to 1, less that ½ a million to 1. of winning a jackpot. Still
significantly high but much better than 14 million to 1.
For a £10.00 wager you can cover a total of sixty numbers, this means that we can cover 30 numbers with each of our 30 selections covered twice, or we can cover 20 numbers with each of the selections covered 3 times, now if we make a grid to cover as previously explained (abcde) we can overlap the selections and dramatically increase the odds of getting a return. Obviously we have to correctly apply all our other conditions in a quest to determine getting the correct six numbers something we have no control over and we cannot guarantee hitting the jackpot or even getting a major prize. What we can say though is if five or six numbers fall within your 20 selections there is every chance that at the very least you will get some sort of return on your wager, and maybe just maybe, they could all fall on the same line. Just to put things into perspective, to cover all permutations of 6 from 20 this would require filling in 38,760 boards, if you allocated just 20 seconds for each board, and continued to fill them in non stop 24 hours a day it would take you 9 days to complete, and probably another 2 days for the operator to put them into the computer. What I can say is that I have been using this system for a number of years now and I have a high strike rate, I have had any number of 4 ball combinations ranging from £39 to £120 and five ball combinations ranging from £1,800 to £3,500 and can almost guarantee getting my stake back.
At a recent meeting it was suggested to me that for a £8.00 stake we could cover every number on the card bar one. True I replied however we have to take another set of criteria into consideration that is that 60% of draws have an average spread of 7 numbers and most draws fall with plus minus 3 or 4 of the average. i.e. over 500 of the 877. Taking the various options into consideration we could have just one number on each of six boards, have two boards with no numbers at all, and should two numbers fall on each of two other boards, there would be six boards available to attract the remaining two numbers. It does not take too much imagination to realise that the chances of getting just three numbers using this method are pretty slim, without suggesting that the omitted number still has a I in 49 chance of being drawn.
Consider that we can determine that the six balls will fall between our range of (20) selected numbers, we have therefore effectively reduced the odds of hitting the jackpot from 14 million to one, down to less than 39,000 to one, still big odds but reduced by 350 fold, and we are less concerned with hitting the jackpot but more concerned of getting a reasonable return on our outlay. Providing we can determine we can get the selections picked, correctly we have more than a reasonable chance of winning, and not being out of pocket every week.
Consider how many people are participating in a syndicate and continue to play
their own numbers every week. How many play the same numbers entered into the
syndicate, all they are doing is escalating the odds of winning in order to
take a bigger slice of the prize if they should ever win. (if you play two cards
with the same numbers, then all you are doing is playing two separate boards,
each with a 14 million to one chance of winning, think about it.) If you play
in a syndicate, use the numbers to your advantage i.e. mix them into your own
selections and increase your chances of getting a return. If you are not in
a syndicate then consider forming one, especially with family and friends. If
you won the jackpot you would probably want to share some of your new found
wealth with your family, so why not ask them to contribute to a syndicate and
increase all of your chances of winning. Each one of you are probably
playing a board every week and only have a 14 million to one chance of winning.
By wheeling all of your numbers together and playing more entries then
you can increases the chances of winning for all of the family, if you won,
you were going to share the jackpot with them anyway. By forming a syndicate
you can play more boards, reduce the odds, and all have an equal share of any
prize money.
However as I have shown, I am not supporter playing a set of numbers, and sticking
with the same set, week in week out, this is similar to playing a lucky dip,
although if you have done your home work correctly you should have an improved
chance of getting multiple smaller prizes, by spreading your selections across
a number of boards, and still have a chance of getting the jackpot. As I have
said previously I would advocate using the previous draws and results to your
advantage and make your selections form the current statistics and form. Obviously
this requires one of you doing quite a lot of analysis before each draw, but
with the right kind of attitude and some astute number crunching I am more
than confident you will find your chances of winning are increased considerably
for every draw. As I have said, I have been using the system for a number of
years with great success, obviously there have been times when things have gone
completely astray, that's only to be expected, after all this is a pure lottery
and anything can happen. However for the most part I usually get my stake back
and have the added enjoyment in participating, knowing that my odds of winning
are slightly better than most others.
So how do I do it:
Well the first thing I do is play a different set of numbers for each draw,
don't stick to the same set of numbers this is just the same as playing a lucky
dip, (and whatever you do you must throw your previous entries away, the last
thing you want to know is how last weeks selections would have faired) Don't
do what most people do and play numbers that are of some significance to them
e.g. birthdays. Obviously I am not saying there is no chance of them winning
, anything is possible in a lottery (technically it is just a game of chance)
but previous draws show there is certain criteria that increases the odds of
getting a return, if you fall outside these boundaries then your chance deteriorates.
For example if you have just one attempt per week then expect to win the jackpot,
on average once in the next 269,000 years. I cannot choose the numbers for you,
you have to determine what your set of criterion will be and what factors you
will build into your selection.
Normally you can select 20 or 30 hot numbers very easily normally its just a
case of choosing them from the last 5 or so draws, usually a high percentage
of numbers will reappear within 5 to 10 draws. Cross reference them against
the other factors. E.g. If one of the numbers has reappeared during the last
draw chances are it rarely appears a third time so I would discard, even though
they occasionally reappear three or four times. Keep your eye on numbers that
are playing catch up, e.g. Unlucky 13 is the lowest drawn number ,but if its
not hot still leave it out. As soon as it appears start playing it especially
when playing catch up, until you feel it has gone cold, in general after 9 or
10 draws. Build in pairs of numbers typically there is a high percentage of
draws that contains consecutive numbers. Use the old card grid and determine
if a column has been void of numbers, it is unusual for a column to be void
of numbers for more than one draw. Factor these into your selection, the columns
all share a 20% strike rate so include any missing into your selection, I use
any missing choose hot or cold, but build into for how long when making a selection.
Use blocks of numbers based on your grid card, in general the blocks between
1 to 20 have a lower than average strike rate if numbers don't meet your criteria
discard them. Keep records if you are starting from scratch click to the NEXT

My conclusion is that whilst there may be a moral question raised with the advent of the Lottery and whether the Government should be encouraging gambling on a massive national scale it does provide a relevant contribution to good causes, even if some of these may be questionable. The mathematics are both relevant and interesting and we should all pay attention to them. In particular the relevant odds, and indeed the focus should be on showing that on average the National Lottery gives a poor return on money spent. It is 2 to 1 odds of getting no numbers at all, to get a return of £10 for just three numbers the odds are 57 to 1 i.e. expect just £10 for a 57:1 winner, or just £30 to 100 for 1033:1 winner. Obviously the low return for smaller prizes is due to the way the (POT) prize money is allocated and we should regard getting three numbers as a 10:1 winner. There have been many debates about the ethics of say one person winning so many millions, and whether the prize money could be distributed more evenly, however in my view we have to think of it as a national poker game, and the person with the best hand takes all the pot of money in the middle. With odds of 14 million to one the winner more than deserves to take the pot, you pay your money in and you take your chance, the winner takes all no question about it. Secondly the lottery is based on attracting as many people as possible, with the large Jackpot prize. If there was an excellent way of distributing the prize money fairly, and I have yet to be shown one, the Jackpot prize reduced considerably, the result would almost certainly be a drastic fall in ticket sales, and the inevitable loss associated with them. Most of us are aware of the overwhelming odds, and however much we say we would be happy to win just half a million, we continue to play because of the incredible jackpot, if this was reduced then ticket sales are bound to suffer. Lets be honest about it the jackpot prize is the single entity that drives us to participate in what is just a game of chance.
With the information provided, and with up to date information of the previous draws I hope I have in some way helped you to judge for your self a better way of filling in your lottery tickets . Remember however you look at it, the odds against winning the Jackpot are beyond doubt staggering and therefore I would suggest restricting your wager to an amount of money that is of no significance to you, which is why I suggest forming a syndicate to increase the amount of boards you could play for little outlay each week. Also remember that the use of eight machines and ten sets of balls, their equal calibration, and our not knowing which machine or set of balls is used, makes individual analysis insignificant, and in drawing to the above conclusions this information has not been taken into account. This is a pure game of chance and anything can happen, the best you can do is draw your own conclusions from the information provided and hope that finger of fate is pointing at Me (and You of course).
